orbus lantern

The Orbus Lantern is a slip cast luminaire that is made from the mold of a kettle bell. Each piece is unique and handmade through experimentation with dyeing slip, glazing, and other texturing techniques.

ORBUS 01

    • slip cast from the mold of an exercise kettlebell

    • after firing, red underglaze is painted on the lantern

    • dye is mixed into diluted slip and sprayed onto the piece over the underglaze

    • the dyed slip sprayed on the exterior is carved away to reveal areas of underglaze

ORBUS 02

    • slip cast from the mold of an exercise kettlebell

    • after firing, black underglaze is hand-painted on before bisque-firing

    • clear, glossy glaze is applied and fired

ORBUS 03

    • slip cast from the mold of an exercise kettlebell

    • using red underglaze, the figures around the lantern are smeared simply by wiping away lightly with a sponge

    • after bisque-firing, clear glaze is applied and fired
