The Orbus Lantern is a slip cast luminaire that is made from the mold of a kettle bell. Each piece is unique and handmade through experimentation with dyeing slip, glazing, and other texturing techniques.
ORBUS 01

after firing, red underglaze is painted on the lantern
dye is mixed into diluted slip and sprayed onto the piece over the underglaze
the dyed slip sprayed on the exterior is carved away to reveal areas of underglaze

after firing, black underglaze is hand-painted on before bisque-firing
clear, glossy glaze is applied and fired

using red underglaze, the figures around the lantern are smeared simply by wiping away lightly with a sponge
after bisque-firing, clear glaze is applied and fired
